Week 5
#13 Playing around with PBwiki
Have added my blog under favourite numbers. Have a play at http://manukaulearn.pbwiki.com/Favourite+Numbers

#12 Wikis
A wiki is a website to which anyone can add, change or edit content. You do not need to have any knowledge of HTML or any markup language to be able to set up the website. It is a really useful tool for sharing ideas and for information that needs to be updated constantly. I was fascinated by the number of wikis that have been developed as the only one I knew about was the wikipedia.

Had a look at Book Lovers Wiki - developed by the Princeton Public Library. It has book reviews divided into various genres.

I think it will be really useful to have a wiki functionality added to Manukau Libraries catalogue which will allow users to add reviews to the books.

Week 4
# 9, #10, #11

#11 New technology
USB flash Drive
These are data storage devices. They are much smaller than a CD disc and can hold a large amount of data . I have one that can hold 4 GB of data and is only 5 cm long and hence can be carried in the pocket. They are removable and can be plugged into a computer port. That means if you do not have a designated computer at work you can store your files in the flash drive and work from any available computer.Another advantage is that they are rewritable.

#10 Flick mash ups

Had a look at Flick Montager. Flickr Montager was created by using Flickr images and macromedia flash. You can create a photo mosaic by searching for tags on photos found on flickr.
#9Explore Flickr

Flickr is an online photo management /sharing application owned by Yahoo. You need a Yahoo email account to register. It not only lets you upload your photos but you can edit and organise them and share with family and friends. I used the training user name and password to upload my photo.
I have uploaded the photo below on Fickr.
Scene from my hotel room balcony from my recent holiday in Vanuatu.

Week 2 [ #4 , #5]

RSS feeds and Bloglines Account

This week I managed to set up a bloglines account and added 10 feeds which include : Unshelved, Health & wellness in new Zealand, quotes of the day and Readers Club.
You can view my Bloglines at: http://www.bloglines.com/public/acdevina
I
find bloglines really useful as I get automatic updated information on the topics that interest me and I can view them in one place instead of having to go to different websites. That saves me a lot of time. Learning how to do this is going to be really useful to me as a librarian as I can pass this knowledge onto our library customers.

Week 1 [#1, #2 ,#3]

First Time Blogger

This is my first attempt at blogging. Setting it up was as easy as 1,2,3. Wow just 3 steps!
This is my own website where I can write stuff on an ongoing basis- just like a personal diary.
This is part of Learning web 2 where I will be learning so called 23 "things"-well I have done 2 things so far so 21 more to go. Hope it will be as easy as setting up a blog.

I have registered this blog at Manukau Libraries - Blog Register .
